Medicare Supplement Plan and Discount Information

Member Outreach
Medicare Supplement (Med Supp) members received their annual rate change notice in early February. These letters include their rate increase information.

What to know: The annual rate change notice does not include information on the household discount. The rate displayed in the letter is the rate before the 10% household discount will be applied to their premium.

Here’s a summary of the available offerings:

Increased household discount (10% with expanded eligibility criteria)
Continue with Blue SM discount (7%)
New Med Supp Secure Plan G Plus

Household Discount
A 10% household discount (increased from 7%) is available. The applicant must reside with a spouse or civil union/domestic partner OR have resided with as many as three adults age 60 or older for the last 12 months. Get answers to your questions here

Applies to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) Med Supp policies issued with an effective date on or after May 1, 2019.

Continue with Blue Offers Discount for Current Members
A 7% premium discount is available to those who were enrolled in employer-provided or individual health coverage with a Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan issued in Illinois, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, or Texas and that coverage was within one year of their BCBSIL Med Supp Insurance policy taking effect.

This discount lasts as long as their Med Supp membership is active. The discount cannot be applied retroactively and is not available to members previously enrolled in government plans (MAPD, MMAI, etc.). This discount cannot be combined with the household discount; members can only qualify for one discount program. Get answers to your questions here.

Applies to BCBSIL Med Supp policies issued with an effective date on or after April 1, 2022.

New Underwritten Plan
A new Med Supp plan is available: Plan G Plus Secure.
This plan offers the same benefits as Plan G, in addition to SilverSneakers ® *, Dental, Vision, Hearing and 24/7 Nurseline. Applicants/members may qualify for lower rates if they can pass underwriting.

For Age-In applicants, these plans will be guarantee issue for initial enrollment.

For non-Age-In applicants, the member will require underwriting. Once the underwritten application is approved, they may quality for lower rates.

Policies were ready to quote on March 1, with the earliest effective date of April 1.
